WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
DST combines demonstrations, guided practice, and practical exercises. The focus is making informed personal security decisions in realistic travel situations.
Personal signatures, online information, location exposure, and the pattern-of-life risks created by everyday digital activity.
Recognize how ubiquitous technical surveillance (UTS) can connect data about movements, routines, and associations. Apply defensive counterintelligence (CI) and operations security (OPSEC) awareness.
Practical mobile and computer security, account protection, encryption, and deliberate choices about the information you carry.
Wireless networks, travel routers, VPN capabilities and limits, and secure communications. Choose controls that fit the situation and applicable policy.
Security measures reduce risk; they do not guarantee anonymity or protection from all surveillance. Equipment and services used with official information or networks remain subject to organizational policy.
THE TRAVEL LIFECYCLE
Use a consistent approach across the whole trip, with practical checklists to support each stage.
Review exposure, prepare devices, and plan account access and connectivity.
Keep control of devices and make deliberate connection and sharing choices.
Apply security habits to lodging, daily movement, and communications.
Review devices and accounts, address concerns, and report through the right channels.
CONTINUE THE PRACTICE
Students retain the issued training equipment, supported by course reference materials and travel checklists.
The course package includes a training laptop, a course-approved travel router, and supporting security and power accessories. The emphasis is understanding how to use the equipment and when its use is appropriate.
Final equipment specifications, service subscriptions, and delivery requirements are confirmed during training coordination.
